Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015 Recap – Die Cut Cards, Gold Gammorrean Guard, Topps Choice Ben Quadinaros, Journey of Qui-Gon Part 9, Collegiate Vader, Yavin IV Rebel Base
As expected, Die Cut cards made their appearance today and I have mixed feelings about it. I kind of thought they might up the credits on the pack—ESB Illustrated is 7500 credits, but it also contains a guaranteed card. The Die Cut packs are 7500 credits with really tough odds AND multiple packs if you want to chase multiple parallels. If you’re chasing all 4 parallels you basically have to shell out 30,000 credits for 3 packs and hope you get two inserts in your base pack or master pack. For me this is a pass. I’m not upset about it like some people in the feed seem to be. I mean, they treated players pretty well by giving out free insta-pulls in the Rebels:Defined and Monochrome packs. Plus a bonus card in the WoSW pack. They certainly should make other inserts extremely difficult to obtain. Of course, I wish I could get one of those super rare 25 count cards (I will occasionally try) but, I think it brings balance back to the game. Since Force Friday, the game felt to me like a bit of a feeding frenzy with new cards I’m trying to pull everyday. I think I will take a bit of a breather on some of the new sets like Die Cut, Yavin, and Collegiate to finish out my current chases and maybe save up some credits.
Speaking of Yavin, there was a bit of a surprise drop today with the second card in two days, Rebel Base. I didn’t really notice this yesterday but the pack only contains 6 cards, which is one fewer than most special insert packs. Another reason I’ll collect these on the rebound.
It’s back to the Wookieepedia for today’s Topps’ Choice: Ben Quadinaros:
“was a male Toong from the planet of Tund, and operated as a Podracer pilot during the last decades of the Galactic Republic.”
A fun fact:
“In Star Wars Galaxies players can race several swoop race tracks and try to get the daily track record to receive a badge. If no player has yet completed the track on that day, the race coordinator will tell the player that Ben Quadinaros is the current record holder.”
The Gold Gamorrean Guard variant came out this morning. I’m still hoping to see the Skiff next, or maybe the Rebo band. 🙂
The 9th and penultimate Journey of Qui-Gon Jinn card dropped today: Communing with Yoda. The image of Yoda is, oddly, from Rebels and not the films like the other 8 cards. I guess they had to get something in for the Rebels fans in there somehow.
The next Collegiate card is “V” for Vader. I think if they could have actual characters (say from SW:Rebels) wearing the shirts, I think that would have been way cool.
Until tomorrow.
