Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015 – Signatures Have Arrived, Widevision, Modern R2-D2, Green Speederbike, First Order: Widescreen 05, Mos Eisley

IMG_0261-0.pngWell, it’s done. Signatures have arrived to #SWCT beginning with Mr. Billy Dee Williams. Now, what’s not clear to me yet is if each digital card was individually signed or if everyone received the same digitally signed copy. Here’s how the transmission went,

“… actor Billy Dee Williams will be signing copies of the card pictured above in Smuggler’s Den!”

Even though it reads like he will be there signing, I feel like they mean a virtual Billy Dee will be virtually signing the virtual cards. By the way there are 440 signed cards and 60 unsigned ones. The backs of the cards are different as well. The signed ones say “Signature Series” and show the signature on the back as well.

The 7th Widevision card of the third wave was released today, “The Birth of Hope” an idyllic dual sunset on Tatooine.

A new Moderography card featuring R2-D2 “Astromech Droid” was released. This card, like the Boba Fett card and snowspeeder cards, is less symbolic and more graphic and the first to use a cool color palette.

The Green variant of the Speederbike was released today. It’s worth noting that until yesterday’s break, a Classic Art 2 card has dropped on consecutive days since September 2. We’ll see if we get a Gold card tomorrow or if they decide to move this to an every-other-day schedule like most other sets are enjoying currently.

The fifth of seven the First Order: Widescreens was released today. Still a hot commodity, selling out on it’s first day, though not as quickly as previous releases. There were some strange comments in the Transmission feed for this drop. People were starting to complain about it being another stormtrooper card. I guess they haven’t realized that’s what the First Order is? They are called First Order Stormtroopers, I would think it would be obvious that they would feature lots of stormtroopers. I also noticed today the insignia on the card. It’s like some of the Modernography insignias and I hope we get a First Order one there (maybe as an award). I checked the Platinum variants again at 5 minutes and it was sold out. The Gold at 5 minutes was sitting at around 240. The Blacks were still available until at least 8pm PT (11PM ET) but considering the late drop time today that might explain it.

The final drop of the day was a new Mos Eisley card, a character named Nabrun Leids. This is the 7th card in the 13 release card set. Literally a shadowy character from the storied bar.

Overall, a pretty slow Saturday if you weren’t trying for a signature card. I managed to blow through all my credits early without pulling anything significant so I took the opportunity to make some moves trading and had a pretty successful time at it today. I might use that as a strategy from now on. Pull packs during the week and save my credits on weekends and trade when there seems to be the most activity in the fan feed.
