Friday, Sept. 18, 2015 – Jabba the Hut (and Salacious B. Crumb) Gold, Another Lando Signature, Clonetrooper/Stormtrooper Connections, Defend the Empire, New Set Topps Classic

Happy Friday. Anyone else on the West Coast miss out on the new Classic Arts 2 pack? 6am! I sure did. It was the Gold variant of the Jabba the Hut and his muppet jester, Salacious B. Crumb. Luckily it’s not super rare so I should have a chance to pick one up.

An update to yesterday’s wacky Topps oops (t’oops) day. Apparently, the rumored incorrect odds for the Qui-Gon discounted odds packs were a real thing.

There was a surprise Gold variant of the Lando/Billy Dee signature card. It wasn’t necessary to shred any cards in the Smuggler’s Den for this one. A 100 count card, it was a straight pack pull from the Darth Vader Master Pack at 1:300 odds or you could try your luck in the Darth Vader Jumbo Pack at 1:30 odds, but it will set you back 200,000CR!n

The sixth Connection in the Wave 3 Awards chase is Clonetrooper/Stormtrooper. No drama though less than a 1000 have been pulled as I write this. Most people waiting for the WV double dip I guess.

A “new” Modernography insert today, which is really just the old Darth Vader insert with some new text in a banner that says, “Defend the Galactic Empire.” I can at least say this one is better than the original Darth Vader one.

@ToppsJer also dropped a little hint on a new pack that was dropping

The Force Awakens: Topps Classic pack. Basically, new TFA images in the old 1977 card designs. I like it. They also updated it by adding 3 parallels: Blue, Red, and Yellow. Interestingly they used the “77” style odds, 1:7 for Blue, 1:77 for Red, and thankfully only 1:200 (and not 1:777) for Yellow. The card counts are also 77-ified. 7700 Blues, 770 Reds, and 77 Yellows. Despite the 1:7 odds, I think there were so many people pulling many were left holding empty credit bags. Personally, I think it pays (no pun intended) to purchase Master Access for these super popular packs for a number of reasons, the most important being you at least have an opportunity to pull a rare card. Even if you don’t your odds to pull a base variant card is the same and on occasion you can pull multiple variants sometimes in the same pack.

Now go get cracking those packs.
