Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015 – Topps’ Choice Derlin, ROTJ Pictogram, Finn Monochrome, Journey of Qui-Gon Jinn
It’s the first NFL weekend so maybe Topps wanted to give some of us an easy day so we could figure out how Topps Huddle works. No new sets today and drops were pretty spread out.
First addition was a new Topps’ Choice. Another obscure character, Bren Derlin. Apparently, he led the charge against the Imperial forces on Endor. We’re in week 7 of the 3rd wave. Now there are two obscure characters named Bren (the other, you may recall, is Bren Quersey, Red 8). How popular is the name Bren in the Star Wars universe? Why is Bren Derlin’s photo in black and white? So many unanswered questions.
You know, I thought he looked like Cliffy from Cheers and then I saw this tweet. Oh my god could it be‽

A new Pictogram arrived today depicting the final events of Return of the Jedi. This is number 10 of 15.
The second Monochrome card features Finn. Pretty cool comic book style frame. This will be a cool set when it’s all said and done.
We also got the second card in the Journey of Qui-Gon Jinn set today. I have to say I didn’t notice any better odds today than I did for the first card. The first drop I pulled two whites right away. This time I pulled a Silver variant on my 6th pack and finally a White on my 7th pack. The mechanics of this pack meant if I wanted an easier time to pull White next time, I needed to keep pulling until I got a White this time. Kind of sneaky. This card at least features Qui-Gon, but it’s kind of confusing since the card, from a distance, look like it says, “Apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi” which it is clearly not. I thought we might get more Qui-Gon story in the Transmission or on the back of the card but alas, that’s not to be. I also thought that the Rebels: Defined cards could have used some descriptions on the back as well. The backs of a lot of these cards is just wasted space. The base cards at least have some descriptive text on the back of each one.
