Sunday, Sept. 6, 2015 – Topps’ Choice, Classic Art 2, Modernography, Women of Star Wars , Mos Eisley, and First Order: Widescreen!

No new pack introductions today so I have a chance to work on some older checklists and good news: current ones are being updated regularly.

Topps says in their transmissions that Topps’ Choice is their opportunity to bring to the fore, the under appreciated characters of the Star Wars canon. This week’s choice certainly feels like they made good on their promise. I’m the first to admit, I’m not as familiar with all things Star Wars as even some more casual Star Wars devotees, so I wasn’t surprised that I didn’t know this character. In fact I can’t even tell what movie or TV special the still on the card comes from. If someone knows and can leave a note in the comments or tweet me @jacquespusux then, I would really appreciate it. For those who aren’t keeping track, we are at week 6 of this marathon.

The next Classic Art series 2 variant, the Gold version of Leia as Boushh, dropped today and was quickly snapped up by 667 lucky folks. Still low, compared to the other Gold cards but within reason nothing like the less than 1/3 pull count of the Blue one. I’m telling you people, if you care about this set get your hands on that Blue one if you can; only 857 people will be eligible for the Blue award.

I was on twitter when the next Modernography card dropped and it seemed like the design took some people by surprise, in a good way. The 19 card set is still turning people off to the whole set but it seemed many wanted this card which features a bust of Boba Fett.

The final card in the Women of Star Wars set was released today: Hera Syndulla. The award date hasn’t been announced yet though. Another no-sell-out day, probably due to double dipping into the cards that were left over from Friday’s drop. So obviously Princess Leia is missing from this group. I can’t imagine who else could be on the award card.

The next Mos Eisley insert is Kardue ‘Sal’ Malloc (what’s that all about anyway, do his friends call him ‘Sal’?). Again, I’m sure a hardcore Star Wars buff will be able to pick this guy out of a mug shot but I sure couldn’t say for sure he was from the Star Wars universe except for the fact that he’s on this card—and that’s one of the things I love most about these cards I think. Is that it’s not just about the main characters from the movies. Maybe he appears in Rebels, or maybe he’s in the books. Either way, now we all know he exists (again, if somebody knows and can tell me in the comments that would be super cool).

Finally, today, the next First Order: Widescreen card dropped at 3pm PT today. With ample warning I readied myself for battle by buying some credits so I could have access to the Master Pack. I say if you’re going to spend money you might as well give your self a chance to go after the biggest prize—the Platinum variant. By 3:05 I spent 125k credits and thankfully pulled a Black variant on my penultimate pull (on twitter I said my last but I meant to type “next to last”). Happy with my haul I went to twitter to proclaim my spoils and read that as to be expected the Platinum card had already sold out. Oh well, there will be a next time and just like the Lotto, you gotta be in it to win it.
