Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015 – Modernography, Classic Art Jabba the Hutt, Final First Order Widescreen, Fan’s Choice, Han Solo at Mos Eisley, Jabba Smuggler’s Den Variant, ESB Illustrated Continues

Happy Wednesday! After a few slow-ish days things started to pick up again today.

We’ve past the halfway mark on the Modernography set. Whew! Today is #10 out of 19, The Imperial Trooper, and I think this one is fantastic; I really love the design, it’s simple and timeless. I could see this one as a tattoo. 🙂

We had a Fan’s Choice today between Queen Amidala and two Padmés. The winner is Padmé Amidala (I voted for her). Qui-Gon got a week off since he’s busy with his own set. (j/k)

The latest design in Classic Arts Series 2 is Jabba the Hutt Blue variant (with Salacious B. Crumb). 1433 Card count. Jabba is Six of 14 in Wave 1. We still have a ways to go with this one.

Also released today is the final First Order: Widescreen insert number 07. Now the backs of the cards show an “S1” which could mean Series 1. That would imply there will be a Series 2. Now, as you know, I love these inserts, the FO Stormtrooper design and the look of these cards but, not being able to show too much limits the context of what they can be shown doing and severely limits the appeal of these cards. I hope they wait until after the Force Awakens is released before moving on to the next wave of these cards.

Though it makes sense to bring him out after Greedo, I was a little surprised to see Han Solo not be the award for Mos Eisley. I would have guessed Chewbacca next, but maybe he will be given the award honors. On the other hand Han should give a boost to Mos Eisley’s sales as Master Pack seems to be lagging. As of right now Blue Nabrun Leids still hasn’t sold out so it’s probably a good time to double and triple dip.

The next Wave of Blue, Red and Green ESB – Illustrated cards were released today. These are cards 6-10. You’ll need to purchase the credit bundle by tomorrow 6pm PT to receive the Red variants. You have until the 18 at 6pm PT to redeem your 3 steel cards for Green variants. Having dupes of a few of the first five sold out Blue variants helped me out tremendously today. I ran out of credits (I didn’t want to use my reserve because tomorrow is Thursday) and I had all but given up on trying to finish the Blue set when a trade came in asking for my dupes for all 5 of today’s Blue variants. That made my night. If the next 5 cards drop tomorrow, I’m not sure what I’m going to do.

Jabba was also rewarded a second time today with his own Smuggler’s Den variant though I’ve seen complaints about the pukey color of they selected to use from the image. Maybe they could have jazzed it up with some gold metal fleck like in automotive paint? I wonder if they could also start doing something with parallax to add holograms?
