Recap Weekend Edition Oct. 24-25
Saturday, October 24, 2015
Luminaries: C-3PO & R2-D2. This is the next to last of the set. I really like that they added a checklist on the back of the card (minus the award). Hopefully, decide to do this with future sets.
Classic Art Series 2.2: TIE Interceptor. Also the next to last card in wave 2. Numbers are still very low. I imagine the wave 1 collectors are the primary collectors of wave 2. I think if the waves were shorter—more like 6-8 cards—it wouldn’t be such a daunting task to try and trade even if you started with wave 2. The marathon waves in Topps Huddle more that size and I hope they consider that when the new marathons chases come out.
Crimson: Variants Wave 2 begins with Dr. Cornelius Evazon.
Resistance vs First Order: The next Gold, Red and White chase card is Kylo Ren.
Pink Base Variant: Here’s something interesting. The Pink Han Solo did not sell out when it was available in packs. Topps decided to allow folks to shred 15 Gold base Han Solo (Correllian Smuggler) cards for 1 of the 8 remaining Pink variants. Win for Han Solo hoarders.
Smugger’s Den Monuments: Greedo and Bossk will cost 5,500 Base white each. While, collecting over 5000 whites is nothing to sneeze at, I feel it’s kind of sad that the equivalent of just a little over 1 gold worth of whites is enough to grant you a Monument card.
Halloween: festivities continue.
Sunday, October 25, 2015
Rock On: The 13th and final insert is Imperial Pilot. A date to have the complete collection has not been announced yet.
Crimson: Grand Moff Tarkin.
Resistance vs First Order: Today the chase is for Kylo Ren & First Order Troopers.
Card Trader Illustrated Series 2: The 2nd series of CT Illustrated cards begins with Mondo Fett/Dengar Bounty by illustrator Ken Taylor.
This time Topps has decided to pre-release the illustration that will be the award card. Interesting idea, though I wonder how many will decide to chase based on this? I think the Illustrated’s fan base is pretty much set by how heavily invested you are in your collection. I think all of these will be the cornerstone of any collection and will trade in the future for pretty much anything like Vintage Han in the Millennium Falcon has in the past.
