Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015 Recap – What happened to Vintage, Classic Art Luke Green, Die Cut Phasma, Yavin IV Luke, Final Premium Boba Fett Box, Collegiate: the Force, Anakin’s Starfighter Schematic, Next set of ESB Illustrated (#56-60), Kit Fisto Smuggler’s Den Exclusive Variant

IMG_0431.PNGThe last Vintage card of the marathon came today and then came the collective gasp of shock and horror as the award announcement was made in the Transmission. There would be an award for completing Wave 3 and a Marathon Award for all Wave 1, 2, and 3 cards, less “Luke Preps for Battle” because of the server glitches when that card came out. Then an announcement that there will be a second Marathon Award card for also owning the “Luke Preps for Battle” card. What?! There were expletives flying across the interwebs at Topps for this one. Awesome if you have that card, total heartbreak if you had it and gave it up and sheer madness as people scrambled to acquire one. They have not announced a date yet when you needed to have all the cards for the respective awards. The dust hasn’t settled over this one yet, not by a long shot. People are starting to question whether or not there will be any advantage to holding other non-marathon cards in other sets. A special award for having the Red Cad Bane variant in Bounty? Only time will tell. My gut says no. Vintage is a special case. The other sets have their 30 cards. The original people who pulled the Luke Preps card thought they were chasing a Marathon card, it was only after the fact that Topps said they would remove it from the marathon chase. The non-marathon variants in other sets were made that from the beginning. No, I don’t think the other sets will be affected, but don’t hold me to it. At this point I guess anything can happen.

The next Classic Art 2 card is the man in black, captain hook version ROTJ Luke Skywalker. The Green variant, so Topps is finally starting to mix it up a little.

The next Die Cut card is out. The art work features Captain Phasma. Also, someone on the StarWarsTrader Reddit sub found some evidence of future possible Die Cut designs *spoiler* here and here.

After a day(?) off, the next Yavin IV card is the second Luke card of the day—and the third time he influenced SWCT today. This time it’s X-Wing Luke, about the time he Preps for Battle. The first Green variant of the set (Millennium Falcon) has finally sold out today.

The first Card Trader Illustrated Boxes have sold out today and guess what? We now have the game’s most rare card. The Red CTI Boba Fett sitting pretty at a mere 8 pulled. Congrats to you lucky few. The Gray count landed at a respectable 368. The other variants were all higher than 50. In terms of Vintage Hans, I wonder what multiple the Red Boba is? 3xVintage Hans maybe?

The next collegiate card called, “The Force is Strong in This One” is out now. I’ve noticed people have been throwing the Yellow variant of these cards in trades recently. It’s become the next filler card like Comics, Sketchbook, and TK were. People who are collecting the rarer card end up with so many of the more common variety they just throw them into trades to sweeten the deal.

Anakin’s Jedi Starfighter is the next schematic build. You have 24 hours to build the Pink Starfighter. I’m now counting these as a fraction of the whole (Schematic Card+Build Card) in the checklist. so a number on a build like 50/500 means 50 cards built out of a total of 500 possible. I think the number are more useful seeing them this way. Also I’m not putting in counts until they are sold out since they tend to fluctuate.

The next 5 ESB Illustrated cards are out (#56-60). I got out after Series 1, but now I know there will be 100 cards total, I’m not sure when or if I’ll jump back in. I guess it depends on how easy it is to get these card. Sometimes I get trade offers ESB for something else, but I haven’t gotten them as filler cards. I guess at this point even the Steel variants are worth something. Though it seems likely, I’m not sure if there will be an Award for having all 100. People seem to be chasing them just to own them.

Finally, there was a Smuggler’s Den offer for a Kit Fisto Variant. Normally, I’d end there but today’s was somewhat different. They added an option—it took me a while to find it, you need to swipe left on the area where you’d normally click “swap” to find the alternate option—to turn in 100 White base Kit Fisto cards for a 1% chance to get an SD Variant. Pretty sneaky and a cool little option. I think if I had a couple hundred Kit Fistos I would try it. As it stands, most of mine go to JEDIMASTERBEYP.
